Academic Year
Ecclesia Theological College & Seminary has an academic year of two semesters. The first semester begins in the second week of June and ends in the fourth week of October. And the second semester begins in the first week of November and ends in the third week of April.
Academic Load
Every student is entirely responsible to see that he/she completes his/her studies within specified period. He has to take all the subjects listed in the programme.
Student’s Responsibility
Every student is entirely responsible to see that he/she fulfils all requirements for graduation and specially see that he/she has completed all required subjects and the correct number of credit hours.
Written Works
Term papers and other forms of research writings are required for numerous courses in the curriculum.
Registration
Every student must register for the specific course at the time of admission.
Attendance
a. 100% attendance is expected from all the students.
b. If any student is found to have below 80% of class attendance he/she will not be allowed to write exam.
c. Students unable to attend the class due to sickness or other reasons must obtain a written permission from the Academic Dean through Hostel Warden.
Semester Exams
a. The examinations are set by the respective subject teachers. Usually, there will be two major examinations: Mid-term and Final. The subject teachers will decide the method of examination and the content of question papers in consultations with the principal of the seminary.
b. The duration for the semester exams is three hours; all the examinations are administered through the Academic Dean.
c. Full marks for single subject is 100 and the Pass Marks for a single subject and the average pass marks for each program is 40%.
d. Apart from semester examinations, class test/weekly test shall be conducted in order to enhance the students' learning knowledge.
e. Any Student found copying/cheating during class test or any examinations conducted by the
college shall be debarred from writing that test/examinations.
f. Those students who fail to attend the minimum required grade for the whole of the first year will be asked either to discontinue or register fresh and repeat the first year.
g. If any student is found to be absent from the class for seven days in one semester, he/she will not be permitted to write the Exam on the particular subject.
h. Any student who has not cleared up the dues shall not be allowed to sit in the examination hall.
Retake Exam
a. If a student fails in a subject, he/she will be allowed to appear a retake examination only once with a fine of Rs.200.
b. If a student fails in a retake examination, he/she may be given an academic discharge or be allowed to repeat the subject in a regular class through the direction of the Principal.
c. The retake examinations will be held during the first part of every semester to cover the subjects of the previous semester.
Grading System
First Class: A+ 80% and above
A 75%
A- 70%
Second Class: B+ 65%
B 60%
B- 55%
Third Class: C+ 50%
C 45%
C- 40%
Graduation Requirements
a. There is no automatic right to graduate even when all the class work have been completed successfully. Overall spiritual condition of a student will be taken into account before permitting one to graduate.
b. Every student is entirely responsible for checking that he/she fulfills all requirements and specially ensure that he/she has completed all required subjects and attained the correct number of credit hours.
c. Every student must meet the entire financial and other obligation fees before the graduation.
d. Every student must be personally present at the time of commencement unless he/she has been excused by the Principal.
Academic requirement for Dip. Th.
Class 10 pass for two years Dip. Th. and earn a minimum of 72 credit hrs.
Academic requirement for B.Th.
Class 12 pass / Dip. Th. graduate for three years B. Th. and earn a minimum of 108 credits hrs.
Academic requirement for M.Div.
1. B.Th. graduate: A total of 72 credit hours are required
2. Secular graduate : A total of 108 credit hours are required
Oral Comprehensive Exam
Oral comprehensive exam is conducted for every graduating student, to test their overall understanding particularly in the area of Doctrine and Bible Exposition. If the student shows any deficiency in any area than he/she may be asked to re-appear the Oral Exam.
If the oral examination reveals that the candidate holds a substantially different view on the Doctrinal matters than the position of the college in some important area, he/she may not be allowed to graduate.
Annual Awards
a. Principal Award:
This is given to the graduating student who has obtained the highest average cumulative grade point. This award is available for Bachelor degree and Master degree.
b. Mrs. Kakheli V. Chishi Award:
This award is given to the student who has demonstrated an outstanding achievement in the art of preaching.
c. Late Mrs. Hovili V. Chishi Memorial Award:
This Award is given to the student who has demonstrated outstanding Christian character throughout his / her studies in WBC. This Award will be decided by consensus of the whole WBC community.
d. Late Mrs. Zhesheli Swu Memorial Award:
This Award is given to the student who has attended the Chapel faithfully throughout the Academic year.
